membership provider to web service database - shared hosting

Hi all,

I'm new to learning about membership providers and cant seem to find enough information to get this working. The scenario is that i am using shared hosting and as such the conn string passwords are at the mercy of the host (security risk). What i want to do is to have a web service which has the passwords encrypted be called from the membership controls on my web forms project. Is there some way to change the conn string to point to the web service or to have the membership control connect to the web service to send its calls?
