DB connects but MembershipProvider doesn't

Hi all

I am getting the error "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'xxxxxl'." when my VS Web application tries to access Roles, but not when trying to access the SQL db.

This resulted when I migrated the Web application from one (source) computer to a new (destination) computer.  Both computers were running VS Community and Windows 10.  

The source computer was upgraded from time to time from Win 8, 8.1, Windows 10 and the VS from VS 10 to VS Community.  The web application I am having trouble with was developed a few years ago using VS 10. 

To migrate I copied all the c:/Users/alan/documents/Visual Studio 10 files to the same location in the new computer.  I did the same for /Visual Studio 12, 13 and 15.

I needed to update the database in the destination computer from .\SQLEXPRESS to (LocalDB)\MSSQLLocalDB.  I can now read the tables in the database.

BUT when hitting Debug in VS Community the program fails when trying to access anything associated with the membershipProvider, which is AspNetSqlMembershipProvider.

The error message is: "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'xxxxxl'." 

I can however display other pages which do not require access to Roles or other membershipProvider commands.  

I can display information stored in the database as such, so the db is connecting and can be read.

The  membershipProvider information, eg the aspnet_roles table, is stored in the same database.  There is only one in the application. 

The db connection string is in web.config.

The membershipProvider info in web.config refers to this one connection string.

BUT the membershipProvider seems not to be able to connect to the db, based on the error message received.

I have spent many, many hours trying to resolve this issue.  Any help would be appreciated.
